Sports Cafe - Amsterdam

Sky Sports Cafe
Leidseplein 11
1017PS Amsterdam

The final day of our long sojourn takes us to the Rijksmuseum, and on the way back we decide to quench our thirst and quell our hunger with some BBQ action.

Not normally being a big fan of Heineken, we decided that this would be fairly appropriate to the circumstances, and promptly ordered an extra large jug.

With a full selection of grills, the cafe also offers a €12.95 all-you-can-eat ribs special.

The rest of the menu looks fairly standard - food that you can find anywhere.

So, of course, we go for the perversely gluttonous ribs.

Served with excellent frites, a choice of BBQ, garlic mayo, ketchup etc, these ribs were actually pretty good, and not the frozen mess I had been slightly dreading. The meat was tender and porky, and was glazed with a mild and sticky BBQ sauce that didn't overwhelm. Slices of pickled gherkin in the small salad garnish helped to cut through the greasiness (and it certainly was greasy), while the beer helped to wash away all residue.

Having been advertised as all-you-can-eat, A and I barely managed to finish our allotted portions. It takes an iron will and strong stomach to ask for seconds!

The damage: Two servings of quite-good ribs, with excellent frites plus a large pitcher of Heineken came to €42. Not the cheapest, but certainly excellent value for those days when you just feel like quantity over quality.
